Vacations Don't Have to be Long to be Enjoyable

Author: Vacation Man
Most people think that a vacation has to be a week or more. I say NOT SO! Some of my husband's and my favorite vacations have been shall we say, 'short and very sweet'.

For example, one of my all time favorite music groups is the Eagles. I went online one day and found that they were playing a concert out in Stateline Nevada on Lake Tahoe. That started my wheels spinning. What if, and the next thing you know we were flying out there. The following steps are what I took to arrange a wonderful 5 day get-away.

1. Preparation is the key and the computer age has made almost anything possible.

2. I got on E-bay and searched for tickets to the concert. No problem! There were plenty of people willing to sell. I opted for fantastic seats. After all, if this was going to be a special get-away why not go all out. There were more reasonable ones available if that was what a person desired.

3. Priceline was my next stop. I priced out a package deal including room and car. Since neither my husband or I had ever been to Tahoe, I opted to stay right at the Harvey's Resort where the concert was going to be held.

4. Again, the internet was a valuable tool. I searched for points of interest in the area. I looked up reviews on each one that sounded interesting to me then called for the reservations.

5. We packed our bags and out we flew. Our itinerary went like this.

Sunday morning had us on a flight from Florida to Atlanta. Bonus! They needed volunteers for the First Class flight to Reno. For a nominal fee you could be upgraded to first class. Since the flight was a long one we felt the upgrade was well worth it and we were right! Arrival in Reno was very late. We got our rental car and headed south to Stateline.

Since the concert wasn't until Thursday night we used Monday thru Thursday to sightsee. We took a sky lift up Heavenly a sunset Martini cruise aboard the old 3-M yacht. The next day we took a daytrip down to Yosemite. This was special because my husband had always wanted to see El Capitan and other beautiful sights there. Another evening we boarded a sailing yacht for yet another sunset cruise on Lake Tahoe Our last day there we opted for a bird's eye view of the lake and parasailed over the Lake. Thursday night came and we walked out of our hotel across the parking area and into the amphitheater for an awesome night under the stars.

Friday morning came and we were on our way home. Five days had passed, hardly anything went on back home, in fact we're not sure anyone realized we were gone. But in those five days we had made a memory to last a lifetime!
