What Is Arteriosclerosis?

Author: Kevin Pederson

The walls of arteries are affected by this chronic disease. These walls loose their elasticity due to the increase of plaque in the walls. Due to this there is thickening and hardening of the walls which proves to be a hindrance in blood circulation.

The people affected with this disease are usually ones who are ageing, with hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and other conditions too. One could not find oneself in this condition overnight. The thickening of the walls is a progress of several years which is due to increase amounts of calcium deposits in the walls making hard and brittle.

The areas affected are the cardiovascular system, the brain, kidneys, upper and lower extremities. Arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis are two different conditions which affect differently. Atherosclerosis is a build of fatty acids and leads to coronary heart disease, strokes and any other disorders occurring due to blood clots. Such disorders can lead to an increase in blood pressure.

Some of the causes which can lead to the doors of arteriosclerosis are hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking and obesity. Some of the details which should not be overlooked are some very common signs and symptoms such as high blood pressure, kidney infections, reduced blood circulation to the fingers and toes.

Some of the common precautions which can be taken are by taking treatment for your ailments such as high blood pressure, treatment of diabetes; avoid smoking, reducing your dietary calcium and increasing your magnesium, shedding some of those pounds which can create great problems.
