Are You a Member of America??s Most Exciting Church Choir?

Author: Nicholas Phillips
Ask any churchgoer what their favorite part of the service is, and a majority is likely to say 'the music.' In fact, a new survey finds music to be a source of spiritual inspiration both in, and out of, church. The survey, conducted by Voices of Joy this month, revealed that 68 percent of fervent church goers (those who attend church at least once a week) find music to be the most enjoyable aspect of the church service.

Despite its growing popularity and importance among American families, a void currently exists for nationally-televised church music entertainment. That is about to change.

'Voices of Joy,' a national church music competition, is seeking America's most exciting church choir. The competition begins with an inspirational series of local and regional community competitions in selected markets. To enter, church music groups in all qualifying markets are encouraged to submit a DVD or VHS of themselves performing three songs by August 18, 2006.

Churches within a 100 mile radius of the following cities will be qualified to compete: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia, Seattle and Washington D.C. Additional entry details are available on www.voicesofjoytv.com.

From each market, winners will be chosen to go on and represent its city in a nationally-televised competition to be aired this fall.

In addition to showcasing the music of the church, 'Voices of Joy' is committed to giving back to those that inspire and serve their communities, and will award over $1.3 million in educational scholarships to the scholastic institutions of candidates selected by winning churches. Every church whose choir is competing, beginning with those that move on to represent their respective city, win at least $25,000 for their community. The size of the prizes increases with each advancement in the competition, culminating in a grand award of $500,000 to the winner of the series.

'Voices of Joy is more than just a competition for choirs. It is inspirational series of live events and television programs for the entire family. Audiences will not only be treated to some of the best inspirational music, but it will also get to know some of the most outstanding personalities involved in American church communities and their inspiring stories,' says Jeff Rowland, Executive Producer.

'I think the concept of a show, reality or musical show, based on church choirs is fantastic,' says Dr. Craig Jessup, musical director for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
