Removing Excess Skin

Author: Sarah Thomas
People who have lost a lot of weight may end up with a lot of skin that might be embarrassing or bothersome. This skin cannot be exercised or dieted away and tightening the skin or toning the muscle will help up to a point.

As we age the skin loses its ability to bounce back so the skin will just hang there. One of the solutions many people take to address this issue is the use of plastic surgery.

This procedure involves cutting away the excess skin and sewing the ends back together again. The process can be expensive depending on the area of the body and it can take a long time. You will end up with scars that may appear drop or pear shaped.

After the procedure to cut away the loose skin the scarring will be extensive and ugly so you must make a decision whether you can live with the excess loose skin or whether you prefer having scars.

This is a difficult choice to make because you have to think about the costs of surgery and the length of time it takes to recover versus the peace of mind that comes with completing your whole body makeover and doing away with the excess skin.

Another thing to consider is the fact that you have lost weight in a certain area, this area has undergone a dramatic change and it will need time to settle before being operated on. In addition, after surgery you will not look like you did when you were younger, your body would be filled with a lot of scars.

If you have lost a lot of weight, it would be a good idea to wait a while for your body to settle. After a few months you will be able to have a general idea of what area to operate on.
