Pet Grooming for Flea Fall-Out

Author: Terry Price

Does Fido have some pesky varmints that bother him night and day? You can incorporate with your pet grooming a vet-recommended flea shampoo or one suggested by a reputable pet supply store. Remember to use it only on animals that the product is intended for, as some products can be harsh, especially when it comes to cats! Depending on the size of your pet, proper usage or dosing may be different for the size and species of animal. Also when it comes to bath time, the water temperature should be kept only slightly warm or even cool because your dog may overheat easily. What feels warm to you may be too warm for your dog.

The best way to start is by getting the neck fully wet down to the skin and leave most of the body dry at this point. Apply the product and lather thoroughly around the neck as this prevents fleas from gathering at the eyes, ears, and face where it is difficult to apply the shampoo safely. After you have done the neck and head area, wet the rest of the body, let it sit for a few minutes and then shampoo thoroughly. Always remember to rinse Fido properly, as flea shampoo can be very drying for its skin and coat. Giving your pet a flea bath is only part of good pet grooming habits.

If your dog doesn't have skin problems, it is wise to follow up with a normal conditioner or a flea control conditioner. Remember to not rely completely on shampooing to get rid of fleas permanently, as they live in the environment and you must aim the control at getting rid of their living environment. There are many types of flea control methods from collars, powders, and spot-on treatment. There are even methods of controls such as insecticides, sprays, and medications that you can use to break the flea life-cycle. Good pet grooming requires a little common sense, which goes a long way especially when it comes to making the experience as pleasant as possible for you and your pet! Remember to heed all warnings and instructions closely. Also, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly when you have completed the treatment process.
